Amino acids are the building blocks of protein (e.g. muscle tissue). There are 20 amino acids found in muscle tissue. Of these, 9 are essential, meaning they must be obtained through the diet. Whereas, the other 11 are termed non-essential as they can be made within the body (from other amino acids).

Three of the essential amino acids, leucine, isoleucine and valine, are collectively called branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) due to their chemical structure. BCAAs make up 1/3 of muscle tissue and are unique as they’re oxidized (burned) for energy during exercise.

Suggested Use
